Meditations

"What is the source of our first suffering? It lies in the fact that we hesitated to speak. It was born in the moment when we accumulated silent things within us." Gaston Bachelard

A few years ago Seamus Heaney wrote "Station Island" one of the finest English language poems of the 20th century. Spring is here and I will be going out to buy a copy before you do.

The Gaston Bachelard quote is fantastic. I'm blown away because as I watch my son grow and of course begin to accumulate good and bad, I wonder if he's yet hit that "silent spot"...It kills me to think of it.

I like your blog and find your observations and referrals to writings and historical events attention binding...Thank you.

Ooh, Bachelard! We studied his work in the days when I read Anthropology, and I remember falling in love when I read "Public opinion, by definition, doesn't think."
